Booked train tickets... All was fine, except that I requested seats "D & F." (High speed trains in 2nd class have seating 3 seats- ABC then two seats DF)... This would allow my wife and I to have our "own row." On both trips we recived seats A & B... When I tried to change at the train station- it was too late already... I have been purchasing train tickets through Travel China Guide for 3 years now. It is so easy and customer service is great! Just pick your ticket up at sales counter in station by showing the pick up number provided by the website. You can even choose the seat you want. I never had an issue and traveled more than a dozen times on China bullet trains. Especially if you can't speak Chinese, the best way to go! Collapse

High Speed Trains
The 37,900 km's (23,550 mi) high speed rail enables more than 2,300 pairs of daily bullet trains in operation, connecting almost every large city and top tourist destinations.
First Class Seat vs. Second Class Seat
First class carriage has four seats in a row while second class carriage has five, hence a first class seat is bigger and more comfortable. But its ticket price is 20%-40% higher than that of a second class seat.
Which type of train and which class to choose
High speed types are recommended, with second class seats, first class seats and business class seats for short-time journeys. Soft sleepers and hard sleepers are good choices for an overnight trip.
How to buy China rail tickets
Two methods: book with an online agency as early as possible to ensure the best seat/berth; purchase at a railway station with your original passport at most 28 days in advance.
How to collect tickets
It's unnecessary to have a paper ticket. If you want a receipt for reimbursement, you can have it delivered to a hotel you reserved in China or pick it up at a railway station with your passport and pickup number.
How to take a train in China

Train Tickets for 2021 Spring Festival Travel Rush On Sale Since December 30, 2020

The 2021 Spring Festival Travel Rush will start from January 28 and end at March 8, 2021, lasting for 40 days. According to the tradition of releasing tickets 30 days before the train departure date of China Railway Corporation, train tickets for 2021 Spring Festival Travel Rush will be on sale since December 30, 2020.

Passengers are advised to book a ticket in advance if planning to travel during this period, especially for the peak days of February 4, February 10, February 11, February 17, and February 26.

Flexible Pricing Introduced to Beijing - Shanghai High Speed Trains Since Dec. 23, 2020

Starting from December 23, 2020, flexible pricing has been introduced to Beijing - Shanghai High Speed Railway, the busiest railway line in China. High speed trains operating between Beijing and Shanghai with a speed of 300 to 350 kph will see a change in ticket price.

Previously, the ticket fares were fixed. Now, they have been optimized and fluctuate in response to journey duration, season, class of seats, etc. On the first day that the dynamic pricing took effect, the lowest fare of a second-class seat was CNY 498, a drop of 10%. By comparison, the highest fare of a second-class seat reached CNY 598, increased by 8%.

Travelled January 2020 (2 of us together) on train G70 from Zhumadian to Beijing (train originates in Guangzhou) in Business Class. Business Class compartment is quite small at front of carriage, with about 8 seats in all - 2 rows of 3 seats, one row at the front with two seats only, one on either side of the aisle (this is where we were sitting). Our journey time was about 4hrs 10mins, hot airline style tray meal plus copious additional snacks and soup included in ticket price, pretty nice and tasty. Trip was very smooth and the attendant was pleasant and polite. Made use of the full flat-bed electric recline on our seats for part of the journey, quite comfortable. Wi-fi pretty good, certainly good enough to upload items including photos to Instagram/Facebook/Twitter etc using already-installed VPN on our smart-phones quite easily and rapidly, also of course made use of seat phone-charging facilities. Our booking was made at short notice as we should have been flying about 10 days later to Beijing and on to Europe, but advanced our trip back because of the then just-commencing covd19 crisis. This was 'compensation' for having missed out on the bullet train trip Zhumadian-Shenzhen which we would otherwise have taken over the Lunar New Year....More

TravelChinaGuide is sooo good and considerate. We like to travel cheaply and thus prefer to take trains rather than flying. We four persons (parents and two teens) travelled in late September, it was the best season there. We booked all high speed trains but Ivy recommended two overnight trains from Beijing to Xian and Xian to Suzhou, which could save our day time and hotel accommodation. Our family had a whole cabin and the sleeper berth was really nice. We appreciate this very very much!!!

The departure time can be changed before departure. But if you have the tickets in hand already, it can not be changed online, but can change it at the train station.

What does it mean 2 on ticket next to the arrival time

+2 means the train will arrive at the destination on the third day. +1 means the next day.
